Greener vehicles are set to influence the way that new properties are planned and built, new research suggests.
A poll by property specialists, movewithus, has revealed that developers are expecting the levels of parking spaces to increase over the next decade for more environmentally-friendly modes of transport, such as smaller cars, bicycles and electric powered cars.
The research which polled over 30 leading residential building developers across the UK, reported that 90 per cent of responses thought that car parking space for big cars would decrease, whilst 80 per cent said car parking space for small cars would increase.
Parking space for bicycles (94 per cent), motorbikes (70 per cent) and electric powered cars (90 per cent) were also all expected to increase significantly. This could mean that more electric car charging points are integrated into residential parking spaces too.
Robin King, movewithus director, commented: "In the next decade, green issues will be top of the political agenda once again. I think developers have taken this on board and are expecting to see all future town planning development incorporate changes geared towards helping the environment."
