You are here: Why go Xero

Why go Xero?

Three reasons:

Your Environment
Your Wallet
Your Health

Your environment

If we were to plant a forest with the aim of offsetting the UK's carbon emissions, the forest would need to cover the entire area of the UK and half as much again.

Road transport in the UK accounts for over 20% of our total emissions and with continued growth the transport sector is the fastest growing source of greenhouse gases. London road transport contributes almost 80% of particulate emissions. Traffic of passenger cars contributes to 12% of man-made CO2 in Europe

Battery-electric cars using renewable energy provide the largest reduction in greenhouse gases. Even with ‘standard-mix’ electric vehicles greenhouse gases are reduced by 40%. Xero Technology's electric vehicles can help to significantly reduce our CO2 emissions and urban air pollution levels.

Your wallet

There are a great number of ways in which owning a Xero can save you both time and money such as free parking and access to restricted areas such as bus and cycle lanes.

  • Xero Technology's vehicles are exempt from inner-city congestion charges
  • The initial purchase of a XERO could be as little as £399
  • There is no road tax to pay as all of our vehicles are exempt.*
  • Our electric vehicles are in the lowest rated insurance group

As of April 2010 UK fuel duty and VAT rates are set at 57.19ppl and 17.5% respectively, for electric vehicles fuel duty is zero whilst the VAT rate is just 5% meaning zero emission travel can provide dramatic savings. It is thought that 60% of car trips are less than 5 miles, 25% are less than 2 miles, both distances are well within the range of any of Xero's vehicles and the cost of recharging them equates to a running cost of less than 1p per mile making them a low cost, eco-friendly solution for inner-city travel or commuting to work.

Company vehicle tax is linked to both vehicle cost and emission rating.  Based on an average car emission of 165 g/km you will be paying 21% of vehicle value where as our vehicles, powered solely by electric are subject to only a 9% tax band. There are also government subsidies, registration fees and tax reductions for business users which provide significant savings.

Due to the way they are designed, the vehicles require minimal maintenance, the majority of the key components on a XERO are sealed and maintenance free. There is no oil to check or any spark plugs or filters to change.

Your Health

Health hazards resulting from air pollution are a big reason to 'go green' and our range of zero emissions electric vehicles is a great way to do this. We have all experienced air pollution and it is estimated that 1 in 50 heart attacks are in London are triggered by it. The Carbon Monoxide in the emissions of fossil-fuel burning vehicles inhibit the bloods ability to carry Oxygen to the brain, heart and other tissue. Exposure to the general particulate matter in emissions can cause further complications for persons with asthma or other respiratory problems.

Xero's vehicles produce NO emissions and contribute nothing toward increasing air pollution levels.

Our electric vehicles are also virtually silent helping to reduce exposure to noise pollution which is considered to be a major public health risk by the World Health Organisation and is estimated to affect 40% of Europe’s population.

* XERO's are exempt from road tax, but still require a tax disc to be displayed as well as registration with the Vehicle Licensing Authority.
